The ASEAN Economic Community’s Original Integration Model
When it was created 50 years ago, ASEAN's (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) economic ambitions were rather modest. However, up until 1992 it progressively integrated the economies of its member states.
The integration process became institutionalized in the period that followed. The ASEAN Economic Community follows principles that are very different from those which governed the European construction and is being called upon to play a driving role in structuring the Asia-Pacific region.
