New Chinese Activism in the Mediterranean
Chinese presence in the Mediterranean is increasing: propositions for cooperation forums with various southern European countries, investment in port terminals, military maneuvering, evacuation of citizens, etc.
The Mediterranean is probably not at the top of China’s list of concerns, but it remains a necessary point of passage for Chinese exports to Europe, and it plays a significant part in the strategic thinking behind the new silk roads.
