Great Central Asia is composed of three different geographical areas, diverse and notwithstandingly unique. After having been conquered for 2000 years by seven different empires, this area may again become a pivotal one by developing its relations with the most outstanding world actors: Russia, China and the United States. Countries of the region must build up their solidarity, while the United States must pay careful attention to the whole area.S. Frederick Starr, Research Professor at the Foreign Policy Institute of the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University, is the Founder and Chairman of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute & Silk Road Studies Program, the primary institution in the Washington area for this region.
