View moreLuc Pagès is an advisor at Ifri's Security Studies center. He is a naval officer who served for 35 years in the French Navy. He left active duty in September 2021. He joined the Naval Academy in 1986, and his career was spent aboard various surface vessels such as on a navy training ship (1992-1993; Brest), a surveillance frigate (2008-2009; French Polynesia) and an anti-submarine frigate (2010-2012; Toulon). He attended "L'école de guerre française" and was an auditor at the National Defense University (2012-2013; Washington DC) where he earned a master's degree in national security strategy.
During his career, he participated in numerous air-sea operations, including Khor Angar (Djibouti) and Trident/Allied Force in the Adriatic Sea (1999), Active Endeavor in the Mediterranean, Enduring Freedom in the Indian Ocean and Harmattan/Unified Protector in Libya (2011).
Furthermore, Luc Pagès held positions of responsibility in international defense relations for eleven years, including Head of Office of the Policy Office of the NATO Transformation Command in Norfolk and Coordination Officer of SACT and DSACT (2004-2007), Naval Attaché at the French Embassy in the United States (2013-2016) and Head of the Office for French Bilateral Military Relations with transatlantic countries (2016-2018). His last position in his career in the navy was General Officer/ Defense Attaché at the French Embassy in the United Kingdom (2018-2021).
