In March 2000, when Vladimir Putin came to power, oil was trading at 31 dollars per barrel. Eight years later, oil prices have passed the 100 dollars per barrel mark. Is this increase in energy prices sufficient to explain the return of Russian power on the international stage? Marshall Goldman, a specialist on the Russian economy, will tackle this problem by evaluating the role of Vladimir Putin's leadership in Russia's return.
