Alexander T. J. Lennon is the editor-in-chief of The Washington Quarterly, focusing on global strategic trends and their public policy implications, hosted at The Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.

Lennon focuses on the grand strategy and foreign and security policies of contemporary major powers—especially the United States and China—as well as nuclear proliferation prevention strategy, particularly toward Iran and global nonproliferation. He has completed projects on the future of democracy promotion in U.S. grand strategy, the national security implications of global climate change, and the regional risks of proliferation from Iran and North Korea. He previously served at the U.S. Department of State, focusing on Middle East affairs. 

Lennon has edited or coedited seven books, published numerous articles and op-eds, and has been interviewed frequently by the media. He is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific (CSCAP).

Lennon holds a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, where his dissertation was on the role of track-two networks in U.S. nonproliferation policy, an M.A. in national security studies from Georgetown University, and an A.B. cum laude from Harvard University, where he was the national policy debate (NDT) champion.
