The praxeological approach to international relations obviates the difficulty of defining a basically —and perhaps more and more— heterogeneous “international system,” at least for the actors concerned. Specific international problems can thus be identified —regional crisis, nuclear proliferation, terrorism— and for which the states, still dominant on the international scene, can develop their cooperation.Thierry de Montbrial, is a Member of the “Institut de France”. He has been professor of Economics at the Ecole Polytechnique since 1974 and chaired its Department of Economics between 1974 and 1992. He also holds the chair of Economics and International Relations at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers.
