The Californian Recall and Direct Democracy in the US: a New Political Pattern?
This paper tries to assess the rippling effects of the 2003 Californian recall on American national politics. François de Chantal substantiates the hypothesis that Governor Davis was the third victim of a broader Republican strategy aimed at using extra-regular political tools to achieve supremacy: after the 1998 impeachment against Bill Clinton and the 2000 contested presidential election, the recall is the third illustration of a bullish Republican strategy.
