The Political Uses of Religion: The Bush Presidency
As part of his current research interests, François de Chantal underlines the political dimensions of Bush's religious rhetoric. The Bush Presidency is apparently characterized by a deep commitment to religious values. When the President declared in his State of the Union Speech that there was an 'Axis of Evil', he used moral categories to legitimize his foreign policy. François de Chantal shows that this rhetoric is linked to purely political objectives. Religious values are instrumentalized. They are devoid of substance. This text was first presented in the research center of the University of Burgondy Image-Texte-Langage.
